Floating is an homage to the profound visual explorations of Mark Rothko, an artist celebrated for his intense focus on the very essence of pictorial elements like color, proportion, and scale. In this piece, I've sought to harness the radiant luminosity and contrasting darkness that Rothko often employed, all in an effort to touch upon themes of tragedy, ecstasy, and the sublime. The stark blocks of matte black and luminous white, punctuated with a strip of 24k gold leaf, are my interpretations of these intense emotions. Just as Rothko believed in the abstract image's ability to encapsulate the core of the 'human drama,' Floating invites viewers to experience a similar journey, albeit through my textured layers and defined edges. In capturing both Rothko's spirit and my unique touch, this piece serves as a bridge between two artistic worlds.
